The School of Business and Economics is the oldest among all the schools in Kisii university. The School started as Faculty of Commerce in 1999 with one degree programme, Bachelor of Business and Management, being offered in one department. In 2001, Bachelor of Commerce degree programme was introduced alongside the Master of Business Administration and several Diploma and Certificate courses. Over the years, the School has graduated several students who have continued to contribute immensely to the Economic Development of this country.
Currently, the School has five departments headed by experienced Chairs of Department (COD), namely: Department of Accounting and Finance, Department of Business Administration, Department of Human Resource and Strategic Management, Department of Management Science and Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management. Further there are two coordination offices namely Coordination of Post Graduate Studies and Coordination of Industrial Attachment.
Kisii University school of Business and Economics mounts market driven programmes that equips trainees for technical positions in various specialized disciplines. The School has 66 Full time lecturers and Several Part-time Lecturers spread out in the five departments. Further there are16 non-teaching staff work around the clock to ensure the success of all academic programs.
During the year 2019, the school was been able to organize a number of workshops and symposia as a way of linking up with the industry! Specifically, through the School, Kisii University has been fully accredited to offer KASNEB examinations. Further, the School participated and came runners up during the Capital Markets Authority Challenge held in the month of June. Most recently, the school competed with other Universities in the Lake Region Economic Block won an opportunity to host a centre of excellence for Business and Economics in the region. Moving forward, in 2020 and beyond, we want to build on these achievements and become a centre of excellence in teaching, research and outreach services in the region.
